The client is at the front end of the "End-to-End".

An End-to-end Trace Analysis analyzes the performance of a single transaction of work.

The trace SAPIEPlugin.exe installer can be downloaded from the Attachment section of SAP Note 1041556. To add support for Vista and IE 7.0 with AJAX, select SAPIEPlugin_SPxx_xx.zip for Diagnostics SPxx (where xx = 11, 12, 13, etc.).

SAP Note 1010428 warns that the plug-in works on 32-bit Windows XP and Vista clients only — not on Windows Server 2003 nor 64-bit OS.

    Set screen Procedures

      To perform a trace:

      1. Download the "SAP HTTP PlugIn for IE" (SAPIEPlugin.exe)
      2. Enable tracing in Root Cause Analysis > Traces > E2E Trace Analyze > Trace Enabling > Enable All. This tells the HTTP Service to write the correlation ID from the header to the HTTP log file.
      3. Invoke SAPIEPlugin.exe.
      4. Set the Session Trace Level in the Plugin dialog:
        • "Low" adds HTTP Log, which provides response times. Do this first.
        • "Medium" (the most common choice) adds SQL Trace and Aggregated ABAP Trace
        • "High" adds J2EE Logging and Non-Aggregated (Detailed) ABAP Trace, which generally should not be requested within productive enviornments

        • Note that logging does not display ABAP RFC. Enque/Buffer, Authorization.
      5. Specify the client SMD host and port so that logs can be automatically uploaded to the client.
      6. Click "Start".
      7. Clear the Internet Explorer cache and
      8. Manually perform the SAP transaction under trace, then press Exit on the plug-in.
The plug-in adds to each client request HTTP header X-CorrelationID ("correlator") and trace flags in what SAP calls a "passport". This information triggers logger in the Web Server (ICM and SAP J2EE Engine) and Introscope Transaction Trace.
      9. If the BusinessTransaction.xml log file is not sent to the client, get it from the server log directory named DATE_TIME_<TransactionName>.
      10. Select the lock checkbox to block automatic deletion after 60 days upon the next invocation.
      11. Select a Transaction Step and click Display to view the trace log.
