      Scripture 1st Corinthians (KJV)

        Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
        And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
        And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

      Scripture KJV Scripture NIV Scripture ISV
      Charity suffereth long,
      and is kind;
      charity envieth not;
      charity vaunteth not itself,
      is not puffed up,

      Doth not behave itself unseemly,
      seeketh not her own,
      is not easily provoked,
      thinketh no evil;

      Rejoiceth not in iniquity,
      but rejoiceth in the truth;

      Beareth all things,
      believeth all things,
      hopeth all things,
      endureth all things.

      Charity never faileth:

      Love is patient,
      love is kind.
      It does not envy,
      it does not boast,
      it is not proud.

      It is not rude,
      it is not self-seeking,
      it is not easily angered,

      it keeps no record of wrongs.
      Love does not delight in evil
      but rejoices with the truth.

      It always protects,
      always trusts,
      always hopes,
      always perseveres.
      Love never fails.

      Love is always patient,
      Love is always kind,
      Love is never envious
      Or vaunted up with pride.
      Nor is she conceited,

      5 And never is she rude,
      Never does she think of self
      Or ever get annoyed.
      She never is resentful,

      6 Is never glad with sin,
      But always glad to side with truth,
      Whene'er the truth should win.

      7 She bears up under everything,
      Believes the best in all,
      There is no limit to her hope,
      And never will she fall.

      An old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years. The Wizard says, "Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you. The old man says without hesitation, "I now pronounce you man and wife."

      Robert Runcie, Archbishop of Canterbury, during the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana:

        “Here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made, the prince and princess on their wedding day. But fairy tales usually end at this point with the simple phrase, 'They lived happily ever after.' This may be because fairy tales regard marriage as an anti-climax after the romance of courtship.

        This is not the Christian view. Our faith sees the wedding day not as a place of arrival but the place where the adventure begins.”

      Mike McManus, a columnist for over 100 newspapers, in 1993 established a new standard in Bethesda, Maryland.

        “The church should not be a 'wedding factory', but a training ground for strong marriages to go the distance—for life.”

      Over 45 cities now have a "Community Marriage Policy" where clergy of various denominations have united to require:

      • Several months of premarital testing and preparation.
      • Training for mentor couples to come alongside of newly weds or struggling couples (such as East Texas Marriage Savers), a church-based program. Bethesda, Md., call (301) 469-5873, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
      • Other marriage standards required before the church "blesses" the marriage.

      Endogamy is the custom of marrying within a community.
      Exogamy is the custom of marrying outside a community.
      Consanguineal kinship is by marriage (in-laws and step relatives).
      Affinal kinship is by blood (common genetic descent from the same individual).

      Loving v. Virginia

      Richard and Mildred Loving were married in 1958 in Washington D.C. because interracial marriages were illegal in their home state of Virginia. They lived together in Caroline County, Virginia until 1959 when they were convicted of violating the state's anti-miscegenation law. They were each sentenced to one-year in jail -- suspended when they agreed to leave the state and not return for 25 years.

      They returned to Washington D.C. and in 1963 initiated a suit challenging the anti miscegenation law. In March of 1966, the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals upheld the law, with Judge Basile writing in his ruling:

        "Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and He placed them on separate continents. And, but for the interference with His arrangements, there would be no cause for such marriage."

      But in June of 1967, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled unconstitutional that law, also nullifying similar laws in 16 states. MP3 Hear the oral arguments in MP3

      Today, interracial couple U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife, (who bears the name of the state), live in Virginia.

      Scripture
      “The important thing to remember is that our remaining time is very short. For that reason those who have wives should stay as free as possible for the Lord;

      happiness or sadness or wealth should not keep anyone from doing God's work.

      Those in frequent contact with the exciting things the world offers should make good use of their opportunities without stopping to enjoy them; for the world in its present form will soon be gone.”

      • ModernBride's WeddingNetwork.com provides on-line purchase from Robinsons-May, Stroud's, Blockbuster, and Stacks (as well as services in the Northwest/California).

      • Wal-Mart hasn't woken up to the potential of on-line registries yet.
